Getting a hand, getting a leg in (Dec. 2006)

 


Getting a Wrist, and gettng a leg in


Once we get our opponent here, we should score just about every time. Rule 1, get pressure so he doesn't get back up (see the DVD section on getting pressure on the opponent). Rule 2, control something - get a hand, throw a leg in.

Getting a hand. If you are trying to control the near wrist, catch the fat part of his hand, not the wrist. Athletes can roll their wrist and free it. If you catch the fat part of the hand, they cannot move out of it nearly as easily. If you are getting the cross wrist, you can grab the wrist. I like to drive over it if I can going to control it, so I can bury it underneath my opponent.

Getting a leg in. A lot of techniques can be used here to get a leg in. A couple of main points: 1. straddle the opponent. Put a heel right above a hip on one side (knee off the mat) and put your knee tight against the body on the other side. 2. Get your arms underneath his arms on both sides. Our DVD has many Leg-in methods to utilize this position, as well as countering their movement.

Once you get a hand or get the leg in, there are tons of ways to turn your opponent. Your first priority, however, is getting that control.
