Preparing for State (March 2007) |
| |
How do you prepare for the State? First, physically: Make sure you work on finishes. Get some live goes from crucial positions such as single leg up and down, hi-crotch, crackdown and front headlock. Work on both scoring and countering. Perfect your turns. Scale down to the things you are going to use at State - basically, work on your game.
Now, Mentally. The thing to remember about state is this: be prepared to do battle every single match, no matter where you are seeded or who you are wrestling. Don't spend a bit of time trying to figure out 'who I will wrestle if I lose'. First of all, the guy you think you will lose to, may be the guy you have to beat in order to place. In addition - you could well be wrong, due to upsets and such. What you have to focus on is this: If they can't stop what you do, it doesn't matter who they are or what they've done - you will beat them. Focus on making the match go your way, and see yourself making the match go your way.
